Buy TicketsVermont native, Grace Potter, along with her former band the Nocturnals, have been steadfast on the touring music scene the past ten years growing a fan base and crossing genres.
In 2004 they self-released their debut, Original Soul, receiving positive response and comparisons to artists like Norah Jones and early Bonnie Raitt. This in turn garnered major-label offers, but the band preferred to build its fan base by constant touring and festival appearances. Word of their electric performance spread, and shortly after their second album, Nothing But the Water came out in 2005.
Their third full-length, This Is Somewhere, hit shelves nationwide in August 2007. In 2010, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals was released; also releasing a four-song Christmas EP, a live album in the UK, and a digital download-only set recorded live at the Fillmore.
It was Potter’s duet with Kenny Chesney, “You and Tequila,” that exposed her to a new fan base. The song was nominated for Single of the Year Vocal Collaboration at the American Country Awards, and the pair performed it at the CMA Awards.
In June of 2012, a new studio album, The Lion the Beast the Beat, by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals was released. Peaking at 17 on the Billboard 200, The Lion the Beast the Beat received the most attention of any Nocturnals record yet released.
After appearing on stage with the band numerous times, Grace was featured on Gov’t Mule’s 2013 album Shout! providing lead vocals for the song “Whisper In Your Soul”.
Never one to stay still, Potter decided to go solo for her next album, 2015’s Midnight. Produced by Eric Valentine, who also co-wrote many of the songs, the album was released in August of this year.
By now, Potter has traveled practically everywhere in the realms of Americana and traditional rock music, and done so ably. On Midnight, she goes for an even broader range of sounds, including (in order of least surprising to most) The Band-esque heartland stomp, vaguely twangy Southern rock, sensual new wave glide, and wiggly post-Pharrell funk. It’s a bold array, and the songs themselves are pretty bold, too, with multi-tracked choruses, erupting electric guitar riffs, and propulsive percussion. It’s a concise, hooky collection of songs with which the 32-year-old Potter has given herself chances to become bigger than ever as a solo name
While touring in support of the new album, Grace opened two shows for the Rolling Stones this summer and brought her energy on stage joining them for “Gimme Shelter”
A dynamo on stage, and not quite yet a household name, Grace Potter is one that should be known to music fans far and wide. Don’t miss her!
